PREAMBLE
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

No kid should be charged to learn.

Pythos is free educational software. It exists to give every
student, everywhere, access to high-quality mathematics and
physics tutoring without paying for it.

This license is designed around one principle:

    FREE ACCESS TO PYTHOS MUST ALWAYS BE PRESERVED.

Commercial organizations may include Pythos in paid products,
platforms, educational systems, enterprise software, and
subscription services. Commercialization of surrounding products
is permitted.

What is not permitted is any commercialization that eliminates,
obstructs, hides, or misrepresents a user's ability to access
Pythos for free at the official Pythos service.

If a company sells a product that includes Pythos, the company
must clearly tell every user that Pythos is free and provide a
direct, functional link to the official free service. That link
must genuinely work — without payment, without a subscription,
without a credit card, without purchasing the commercial product.

The rights granted by this license are conditioned on compliance
with its terms. This is a condition of the license grant, not
merely a contractual obligation. Use that violates these conditions
is not authorized and constitutes copyright infringement.

SECTION 1. DEFINITIONS
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

1.1  "Pythos" means the software program known as Pythos as
     distributed by the copyright holder, including its source
     code, object code, documentation, and associated materials.

1.2  "Covered Work" means:
     (a) Pythos itself;
     (b) any work containing Pythos source code or any
         substantial portion thereof;
     (c) any modification of Pythos;
     (d) any fork incorporating Pythos source code or substantial
         portions thereof; or
     (e) any combination incorporating Pythos source code or
         substantial portions thereof.

     A Covered Work does NOT include:
     (i)  works that independently implement similar functionality
          without copying Pythos expression;
     (ii) works that interface with a Pythos Network Service
          through a published API without incorporating Pythos
          source code; or
     (iii) works that use only the outputs of Pythos (such as
           mathematical answers or explanations) without
           incorporating Pythos source code.

1.3  "Pythos Functionality" means the core capabilities provided
     by Pythos, including AI-assisted mathematics and physics
     reasoning, deterministic verification of mathematical claims,
     prompt-to-claim fidelity analysis, and delivery gate
     management, or substantially equivalent capabilities in a
     Covered Work.

1.4  "Pythos Network Service" means any system, application,
     platform, API, or service that:
     (a) is made available to users over a network; and
     (b) uses a Covered Work to process user inputs or requests,
         including through intermediate processing layers or
         microservices; and
     (c) returns Pythos Functionality to those users, directly
         or through intermediate systems.

     A Pythos Network Service exists regardless of how it is
     labeled (service, platform, product, tool, API, chatbot,
     application, or otherwise), and regardless of the number
     of processing layers between the Covered Work and the user.

1.5  "Official Free Pythos Service" means the free Pythos service
     operated by the copyright holder at:

         https://pythos.lanzar.me/

     or any successor URL designated by the copyright holder.
     The authoritative current URL is maintained in the canonical
     project repository at https://github.com/JonScott79/Pythos
     in a file named PYTHOS_FREE_URL. Operators who maintain a
     Free Access Link have a 60-day grace period to update links
     following any published URL change.

1.6  "Free Access Link" means a hyperlink, URL reference, or
     other functional reference that satisfies all the
     requirements of Section 3.2.

1.7  "User" means any person who uses, interacts with, or
     receives Pythos Functionality through a Covered Work or
     Pythos Network Service. Where a Covered Work is accessed
     through an API, Users include both the developers who access
     the API and, where applicable, the end users of applications
     built on that API.

1.8  "Operator" means any person or organization that distributes,
     hosts, deploys, or makes available a Covered Work or Pythos
     Network Service to Users.

1.9  "You" or "Licensee" means the individual or legal entity
     exercising rights under this license.

1.10 "Distribute" means to make available to others by any means,
     including download, physical media, hosted service, API,
     network service, embedded delivery, or any other mechanism.

1.11 "Contributor" means any person or entity that submits
     material for inclusion in Pythos.

1.12 "Complete Corresponding Source Code" means the preferred
     form of the Covered Work for making modifications, including
     all source code necessary to generate, install, and run the
     Covered Work, regardless of any intermediate compilation,
     transpilation, obfuscation, or other transformation applied
     before deployment.

SECTION 2. GRANT OF RIGHTS
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Subject to the conditions of this license — which are conditions
of the grant, not merely covenants — the copyright holder grants
you a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to:

     (a) use Pythos for any lawful purpose;
     (b) study and inspect the Pythos source code;
     (c) copy and redistribute Pythos;
     (d) modify Pythos and create Covered Works;
     (e) run Pythos and Covered Works, including as Pythos
         Network Services; and
     (f) make Pythos and Covered Works available to others.

THESE RIGHTS ARE CONDITIONED ON COMPLIANCE WITH THIS LICENSE.
Exercise of any right granted here in violation of the conditions
of this license is not authorized and constitutes copyright
infringement. These obligations are conditions of the license
grant and are not merely contractual covenants.

SECTION 3. FREE ACCESS PRESERVATION — CORE OBLIGATION
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

3.1  FUNDAMENTAL REQUIREMENT.

     Any Operator who distributes, hosts, deploys, or makes
     available a Covered Work or Pythos Network Service must
     preserve free access to Pythos by satisfying ALL of the
     following requirements:

     (a) provide a Free Access Link as defined in Section 3.2;
     (b) not engage in prohibited obstruction as defined in
         Section 3.3; and
     (c) not engage in misrepresentation as defined in Section 3.4.

     These requirements apply regardless of whether the Operator
     charges for the surrounding product, platform, service,
     subscription, or software.

3.2  FREE ACCESS LINK REQUIREMENTS.

     A Free Access Link must satisfy ALL of the following
     objective requirements:

     (a) TARGET. The link must resolve to the Official Free
         Pythos Service as defined in Section 1.5. A link to
         any other URL does not satisfy this requirement without
         written authorization from the copyright holder.

     (b) FUNCTIONAL. The link must return a live, accessible
         HTTP response at the time a User follows it. A broken,
         dead, or incorrectly redirecting link does not satisfy
         this requirement.

     (c) PAYMENT-FREE PATH. Following the link must not require
         the User to provide payment, a credit card number, bank
         account information, subscription status, membership
         status, institutional affiliation, or any form of
         financial consideration to access Pythos Functionality.
         The complete path from the link to Pythos Functionality
         must be traversable at no cost.

     (d) PLACEMENT. The Free Access Link must appear in at
         least one of the following locations:

         (i)  the primary landing page, product page, or
              marketing page at which the Operator describes
              or promotes Pythos Functionality, visible without
              scrolling past the primary product description;

         (ii) the purchase, checkout, or subscription flow,
              before payment is confirmed; or

         (iii) within the product interface, accessible within
               one direct user interaction from any interface at
               which Pythos Functionality is presented to a User,
               not buried within menus, dropdowns, accordions,
               legal pages, or multi-step navigation.

     (e) ACCESSIBILITY WITHOUT AUTHENTICATION OR PURCHASE. The
         Free Access Link must be accessible to a User who has
         not logged into, purchased, subscribed to, or paid for
         the commercial product in any form. If the link exists
         only inside an authenticated or paid product interface,
         it does not satisfy this requirement unless it also
         appears in a pre-authentication, pre-purchase location
         satisfying (d)(i) or (d)(ii).

     (f) VISUAL PROMINENCE. The Free Access Link must not be
         styled, positioned, or rendered in a manner designed to
         discourage Users from noticing or following it.
         Specifically, the link:

         (i)  must be rendered in a font size no smaller than
              the smallest body text on the same page or screen;

         (ii) must be rendered with a text-to-background color
              contrast ratio of at least 3:1 (per WCAG 2.1
              criterion 1.4.3 or its successor);

         (iii) must not be placed exclusively within a navigation
              menu, dropdown, accordion, tooltip, or other
              collapsed UI element that requires a user interaction
              to reveal, unless the existence and purpose of the
              link is indicated by a visible, permanently displayed
              label at that location; and

         (iv) must not require the User to scroll significantly
              past the principal page content to reach it without
              any visible indicator of its existence in the
              above-the-fold viewport.

     (g) ACCURATE AND SPECIFIC LABEL. The Free Access Link must
         be accompanied by a label or surrounding text that:

         (i)  includes the name "Pythos";
         (ii) accurately communicates that Pythos is available
              for free at the linked address; and
         (iii) does not suggest, imply, or state that payment is
              required to access the linked resource.

         Examples of compliant labels:
             "Pythos is free at pythos.lanzar.me"
             "Access Pythos for free — no payment required"
             "The original Pythos is freely available at
              pythos.lanzar.me"

         A vague label that omits the Pythos name or implies
         a cost does not satisfy this requirement.

3.3  PROHIBITED OBSTRUCTION.

     An Operator must not take any action — whether technical,
     contractual, communicative, interface-based, or otherwise —
     that is designed or reasonably likely to prevent, discourage,
     or impede Users from accessing the Official Free Pythos
     Service. The following specific acts are prohibited:

     (a) placing the Free Access Link exclusively in legal terms,
         privacy policies, end-user license agreements, footnotes,
         or similar documents not ordinarily encountered by Users
         during normal product use;

     (b) placing the Free Access Link in a location requiring a
         User to be authenticated into or to have purchased the
         commercial product to find it, without also providing
         the link in a pre-authentication, pre-purchase location;

     (c) providing a link that routes the User through an
         intermediate page requiring payment, registration, or
         subscription before reaching Pythos Functionality;

     (d) providing a link to a URL that is not the Official Free
         Pythos Service and that imposes payment or restrictions
         on Pythos Functionality;

     (e) including any provision in an Operator's terms of
         service, user agreement, or other contractual document
         that prohibits, discourages, or penalizes Users for
         accessing the Official Free Pythos Service;

     (f) taking any technical measure — including DNS manipulation,
         network filtering, application-level blocking, or other
         technical interference — that blocks, filters, throttles,
         or degrades User access to the Official Free Pythos
         Service;

     (g) deliberately designing the product interface to make the
         Free Access Link difficult to find through visual
         deemphasis, misleading navigation structure, or
         intentional interface complexity; or

     (h) making any communication, policy, or practice — including
         verbal, written, or automated communications to Users —
         that discourages Users from accessing the Official Free
         Pythos Service through misrepresentation, false implication,
         or unfounded negative characterization.

3.4  PROHIBITED MISREPRESENTATION.

     An Operator must not make any affirmative statement to
     Users that is false or misleading regarding the free
     availability of Pythos. The following are prohibited:

     (a) stating or implying that payment is required to access
         Pythos, without immediately and prominently clarifying
         that free access is available at the Official Free
         Pythos Service;

     (b) stating or implying that there is no free version of
         Pythos;

     (c) stating or implying that the Operator's product is the
         official, only, or definitive version of Pythos;

     (d) stating or implying that the Official Free Pythos Service
         is unsafe, unreliable, discontinued, deprecated, or
         inferior in any respect that is not based on demonstrably
         accurate factual information that the Operator can
         substantiate; or

     (e) claiming official endorsement or affiliation with the
         Pythos project or copyright holder without written
         authorization.

3.5  PROHIBITED CRIPPLING.

     An Operator must not deliberately reduce the capabilities
     of a Covered Work below the documented capabilities of the
     Official Free Pythos Service for the purpose of making the
     commercial product appear superior by comparison to the
     Covered Work.

     The following acts create a rebuttable presumption of
     prohibited crippling:

     (a) reducing the mathematical accuracy, scope, or response
         quality of a Covered Work below the documented capability
         of the Official Free Pythos Service while simultaneously
         marketing the paid product's superior performance over
         that Covered Work; or

     (b) introducing artificial errors, deliberate delays, or
         artificial restrictions in a Covered Work that are not
         present in the Pythos codebase and that serve no
         legitimate technical purpose.

     The following are expressly NOT prohibited crippling:

     (c) a paid product providing additional proprietary features,
         better AI models, more subjects, faster response times,
         or other genuine enhancements not present in the
         Official Free Pythos Service;

     (d) a Covered Work operating at lower performance due to
         genuine infrastructure constraints, provided those
         constraints are not artificially introduced; or

     (e) maintaining a Covered Work that has not been updated
         to match every improvement in the Official Free Pythos
         Service, provided the Operator does not represent the
         Covered Work as current or equivalent to the Official
         Free Pythos Service.

3.6  SCOPE OF THESE OBLIGATIONS.

     These obligations apply to any Operator who distributes,
     hosts, deploys, or makes a Covered Work or Pythos Network
     Service available to Users, regardless of whether the
     Operator is a commercial company, nonprofit, school,
     university, government body, or individual.

     These obligations do NOT apply to:

     (a) private internal use of a Covered Work where no Users
         receive Pythos Functionality externally; or

     (b) use of Pythos solely to generate outputs (such as
         mathematical content or explanations) incorporated into
         separate works, without distributing or making available
         the Covered Work itself.

SECTION 4. WHAT THIS LICENSE DOES NOT PROHIBIT
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Subject to full compliance with Section 3, the following
activities are expressly permitted:

4.1  A commercial organization may charge for a product,
     platform, service, subscription, or application that
     includes, embeds, or provides access to Pythos Functionality,
     provided the Operator satisfies all Free Access Preservation
     requirements of Section 3.

4.2  An Operator may charge for:

     (a) installation, configuration, or deployment services;
     (b) technical support, consulting, or training;
     (c) custom development or integration work;
     (d) infrastructure, hosting, or server management for a
         customer's own Pythos deployment;
     (e) proprietary features, content, curriculum, analytics,
         or other value genuinely separate from and independent
         of Pythos Functionality, provided Pythos Functionality
         remains accessible under Section 3; or
     (f) enhanced AI models, improved performance, additional
         academic subjects, or other genuine improvements beyond
         the Official Free Pythos Service.

4.3  An Operator may operate an advertising-supported service
     providing Pythos Functionality without violating this
     license, provided Users are not charged money for access.

4.4  An Operator may accept voluntary donations, grants, or
     sponsorships related to Pythos development or deployment,
     provided access to Pythos Functionality is not conditioned
     on such contributions.

4.5  A paid product may limit access to its own proprietary
     infrastructure, features, and capabilities to paying
     customers. The obligation under Section 3 is not to make
     the paid product free — it is to preserve the path to the
     Official Free Pythos Service for every User.

SECTION 5. THE LINE: PRODUCT VERSUS ACCESS
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

5.1  PERMITTED.

     A company may say:
     "Our $20/month platform includes Pythos."

     provided it also clearly tells Users:
     "Pythos is available free at https://pythos.lanzar.me/"

     and that link genuinely works without payment.

5.2  PROHIBITED.

     A company may NOT:

     (a) tell Users: "Our $20/month platform includes Pythos —
         there is no free access to Pythos"; or

     (b) make Pythos Functionality accessible only to paying
         customers of the Operator's service, without
         preserving the path to the Official Free Pythos
         Service as required by Section 3.

5.3  DIRECT CHARGE FOR PYTHOS AS A SERVICE.

     Where an Operator's sole or dominant commercial purpose —
     as evidenced by the Operator's own marketing materials,
     product description, or user interface — is to charge Users
     for access to Pythos Functionality, the Free Access Link
     requirement does NOT make such an arrangement compliant.
     Providing a link to the free service does not cure a
     violation of this section, because Users are paying for
     access to Pythos Functionality directly, not for a
     surrounding product in which Pythos is incidentally included.

     The distinction is:
     - Paying for a product that INCLUDES Pythos, with free
       access preserved → permitted under Section 4.
     - Paying for ACCESS TO PYTHOS ITSELF → prohibited, even
       if a free link is provided.

SECTION 6. NETWORK SERVICES AND SOURCE AVAILABILITY
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

6.1  If you operate a Pythos Network Service using a Covered
     Work, you must make the Complete Corresponding Source Code
     of that Covered Work available to Users at no charge, by:

     (a) providing a prominent link to a publicly accessible
         repository containing the Complete Corresponding
         Source Code; or

     (b) offering in writing to provide the Complete Corresponding
         Source Code on request.

6.2  Source availability under this section does not satisfy
     the Free Access Preservation requirements of Section 3.
     Both obligations apply independently.

SECTION 7. COPYLEFT — DERIVATIVE WORKS
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

7.1  If you distribute a Covered Work, you must license it to
     all recipients under this license, with all the same
     conditions, without additional restrictions.

7.2  You may not relicense a Covered Work under terms that
     eliminate or weaken the Free Access Preservation
     requirements of Section 3.

7.3  You must make the Complete Corresponding Source Code of
     any Covered Work you distribute available under this
     license, at no charge, by publicly accessible means.

7.4  You may incorporate a Covered Work into a larger work
     containing separate components under different licenses,
     provided:

     (a) the Covered Work portions remain clearly identified
         and licensed under this license;

     (b) the Free Access Preservation requirements of Section 3
         are fully satisfied; and

     (c) the larger work does not prevent recipients from
         exercising their rights under this license with respect
         to the Covered Work portions.

SECTION 8. ATTRIBUTION

     (a) preserve all copyright notices in the original Pythos
         source code;

     (b) include the following attribution in a location visible
         to Users — such as an About page, product interface, or
         documentation accessible without authentication:

8.2  Attribution must be visible to Users without authentication
     or payment. Attribution placed exclusively in source code

     satisfy this requirement for deployed network services or
     distributed software.

SECTION 9. TRADEMARKS

9.1  This license does not grant permission to use the name
     "Pythos," "LANZAR," or associated logos, trademarks, or
     service marks, except:

     (a) as necessary to satisfy attribution requirements under
         Section 8; and

     (b) to accurately describe the origin of a Covered Work
         (e.g., "based on Pythos," "powered by Pythos," "derived
         from Pythos").

9.2  You may not represent a Covered Work as the official Pythos
     project or claim endorsement by the copyright holder without
     written permission.

9.3  Trademark rights are governed by applicable trademark law
     and the Pythos Trademark Policy (published separately) and
     are distinct from the copyright rights governed by this
     license.

SECTION 10. PATENTS
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

10.1 Each Contributor grants a worldwide, non-exclusive,
     royalty-free, irrevocable patent license to make, use,
     sell, offer for sale, import, and transfer Covered Works,
     for patent claims licensable by that Contributor that are
     necessarily infringed by their contribution alone or in
     combination with Pythos.

10.2 If you initiate patent litigation — including cross-claims
     or counterclaims — asserting that Pythos or a Covered Work
     infringes a patent, your rights under this license terminate
     automatically on the date such litigation is filed.

SECTION 11. TERMINATION
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

11.1 AUTOMATIC TERMINATION. Your rights under this license
     terminate automatically if you fail to comply with any
     condition of this license.

11.2 CURE. If your violation is curable, your rights may be
     reinstated if:

     (a) you receive written notice of the violation from the
         copyright holder;
     (b) you cure the violation within 30 days of receiving
         notice; and
     (c) you have not previously violated and been cured under
         this section for a violation of the same provision.

11.3 INCURABLE VIOLATIONS. The following violations are not
     subject to cure and result in immediate, permanent
     termination of your rights:

     (a) intentional obstruction of free access after receiving
         written notice of violation;

     (b) deliberate misrepresentation to Users that payment is
         required for Pythos after receiving written notice;

     (c) a second or subsequent violation of the same provision
         following a prior cure; or

     (d) distributing a Covered Work under terms that affirmatively
         eliminate the Free Access Preservation requirement.

11.4 EFFECT OF TERMINATION. Upon termination, you must immediately
     cease distribution of all Covered Works and cease operation
     of all Pythos Network Services.

     Rights of downstream recipients who received a Covered Work
     from you in compliance with this license before termination
     are not affected by your termination.

11.5 REINSTATEMENT. The copyright holder may reinstate terminated
     rights at their sole discretion, in writing.

SECTION 12. NO WARRANTY

EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY,
FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, OR NONINFRINGEMENT.
THE ENTIRE RISK AS TO QUALITY AND PERFORMANCE OF PYTHOS IS
WITH YOU.

SECTION 13. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY

     of such courts for matters arising from this license.

14.3 Copyright claims under this license are federal claims
     subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the federal
     district courts of the United States.

SECTION 15. INTERPRETATION

15.4 Where this license specifies objective tests, those tests
     control. A reasonable-person standard applies only where
     objective tests are specified as fallbacks or where objective
     measurement is impractical.

15.5 Ambiguity shall be resolved in favor of the interpretation
